Flying to Denali
Views from our flight to the glacier in Denali National Park. When visiting Alaska, one of the great views is of the tallest mountain in North America, Mount McKinley in Denali National Park. On a clear day, this mountain is visible from Anchorage, about 175 miles away. We were in Alaska for over three weeks including five days in and around Denali National Park, and never saw McKinley from the ground. We only saw it from on the flight we took to the glacier below McKinley where those climbing the mountain begin their ascent.
We flew in a six passenger plane and were entirely comfortable with the safety and capability of the pilot and plane. The flight was absolutely beautiful as the photos demonstrate and the landing on the glacier was a highlight of our trip. I recommend to anyone who is going to Alaska that they plan on taking this flight. Flying among those peaks and landing on the glacier is something you will long remember.
We flew from the town of Talkeetna on a tour with Talkeetna Air Taxi, a favorite of many doing this trip as seen on Trip Advisor. They were great!
